The modern
Rottweiler is the descendent of ancient
Roman shepherd dogs, most likely the
Italian Mastiff. On the verge of extinction in the 18 th century, this breed was saved grace to sustained efforts of some devoted breeders nearby
Stuttgart.
Nowdays the canine clubs recognize two branches of Rottweilers:
German Rottweiler of shorter stature, stockyer and with a much bigger head and the American Rottweiler, who is taller than his european counterpart, has longer legs and a slender constitution.
The Rottweiller's coat should be brushed at least twice a week, like all the short haired dog breeds. In this way you encourage the growing of new hair and remove the used one. This activity is also a perfect opportunity for binding with your pet. These dogs usually snore during their sleep and, as a result, they sometimes cough. If coughing becomes more frequent, this may be the sign of a
cardiac or
pulmonary affection. If you notice these signs, you should immediately address a doctor, as they can turn into serious illnesses.
Rottweiler is a dog that requires a lot of space to move. Running in the woods or in open fields will surely make them very happy. Swimming or running alongside your bicycle are perfect for burning up the native energy of your Rottweiler.
The female Rottweiler is very productive when it comes to
puppies, giving birth to as much as 12 during her lifetime.
